Please join us for dinner and beautiful views of DC set to the beats of DJ Kweks as we raise money to benefit victims of the famine in Somalia. Somalia is currently facing its most devastating famine in sixty years, which has already claimed the lives of thousands and endangers the twelve million inhabitants of the East African nation this year. Toda…y’s news has showcased images of emaciated children, wasted away bodies and decimated villages, alerting the world to the urgency of the famine, which the UN calls, “The biggest humanitarian crisis in the world today.” Soul District, in conjunction with Mercy to Mankind Foundation, ADC, and Sudan Project, is hosting a fundraiser dinner to raise consciousness, funding, and facilitate collaboration among groups working on the famine. The event will feature DJ Kweks, among other artists, and will include a catered buffet dinner. The food will be halal. Proceeds raised from the dinner and raffle will be given to support the well project in Afgoye, Somalia (home to the largest refugee camp in Somalia). The cost of the well is $13,000 and will serve an estimated 100,000 people on regular bases. The well will be 100 meters deep and will be build by a grassroot NGO in Mogadishu along with the help of local residents. The engineers that are digging the well estimate the lifespan of the well to be around 20 years. The clean running water will also be used by local farms, orphanages, feeding centers, and many other facilities. ———————————————– DJ KEWK | DJ Kweks’s unique “international music fusion” of various genres ranging from hip-hop, house, to reggae and many African genres, are appreciated by music lovers of diverse cultures.
